Abstract

The topic of the current article demonstrates, on one hand, the global trend of prevalence in the aetiology and pathogenesis of purulent intracranial complications of acute otitis media over chronic, yet on the other hand, emphasizes the possibility of a combined not related course of inflammatory changes in the middle ear cavities and in the brain. A rare case is described with contact mastoiditis combined with destruction of bone structures adjacent to the cranial cavity was secondary to multiple, huge, long-lasting, latent epidural abscesses. And only the appearance of symptoms, even not so much of acute otitis media, but rather tubootitis, became the only sign of manifestation and, with timely and adequate treatment, led to recovery.

Keywords

acute non-suppurative otitis media, mastoiditis, epidural abscess.
